Jumbo's Quote Of The Day

Easter Break

It's Easter break for us college goers here at the house and boy am I enjoying it :)

I feel like a bum not having to do any homework or attend classes...it's nice, Sarah and I already have plans of snagging our friend Amie and maybe even her adorable little sister Delaine for a movie Marathon of our favorite nerdy trilogies :)

Amie wants to introduce us to Star Wars,

...as Sarah and I have never really taken the time to watch those movies. Then we are going to finish watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy...

Picture lots of junk food, lots of popcorn,

sizzling Frodo Baggins with his irresistibly woeful eyebrows,

delicious Legolas,

studdly Aragorn,

...and yeah you can pretty much image how the rest of Easter break is going to be...a whole lot of FUN ^_^

On An Island with Fine Hamburgers and Drinks

I went out with some friends from school this past Saturday night, to a restaurant called “Islands” it is located in West Covina in a mall area dedicated to restaurants. It is a really cool place, full of colorful lights and buildings, people and cars.

Islands has a very relaxing atmosphere, the chairs are high backed polished planks of wood that give the feeling of a booth seat. The table is a polished down surf board and the lights are dim and hang low from the ceiling. Colorful wooden birds and tropical island animals adorn the ceiling and swing from the rafters and stove pipes--which are disguised as tree trunks.

What I really liked about Islands besides the Beach Boy music and tropical jungle setting is their menu. They specialize in burgers but they do have soft tacos and tortilla wraps. I wouldn't be able to tell you if the beverages are any good, because I am not yet twenty-one, but I must say they have the best strawberry lemonade I have ever tried. I find that strawberry lemonade is either very sweet or too diluted, but it seems these folks have it down to a lemon. They have free refills which is great, but what really ranks this place higher then your normal hamburger joint is their endless fries. Yes, you fried potato lovers not only are there free refills on the drinks, they have an endless supply train of french fries coming your way till you yell stop! I went up a notch in the old belt after dinner but I say it was worth it.

The waiters and waitresses are fantastic. The waitress we had was very polite and was cracking jokes with the rest of us making the visit more like going to a friend's house than a restaurant.

I highly recommend Islands to anyone, whether you want to go out on a date or just take the family out (Hint hint! Dad) the service is fast, the food is great, and so are the people that work there.

Fenelon: TRUE GOODNESS IS ONLY REACHED BY ABANDONMENT

Evil circumstances are changed into good when they are received with an enduring trust in the love of God, while good circumstances may be changed into evil when we become attached to them through the love of self. Nothing in us or around us is truly good until we become detached from the world and totally abandoned to God. So, even though you are now in these bad circumstances, put yourself confidently and without reserve into His hand. I would give anything to see you in better circumstances. But if evil circumstances have taught you to be sick of the love of the world, then that is good. That love of self, which the world advocates, is a thousand times more dangerous than any poison. I pray for you with all my heart.

Music for your Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and maybe Tuesday...

Take A Hike... (click on images to enlarge).

Last week we hiked up the trails in Griffith Park, near the Observatory, and snapped a few photos to share.

Here Angela and the girls flank the Hollywood sign.

From the Observatory to this point it's just over a mile and a quarter.

Sometimes our shadows dominate... Let them have their moment.

Here we have the beautiful skyline of Los Angeles in the background, seen through the hazy light of the morning sun. The temperature was a little cool (mid-fifties) at the time. The girls left their sweaters in the car, thinking they were going to warm up by jogging up the hill. Olivia ran. Sarah borrowed my sweater (surprisingly--wink, wink--she didn't feel like running... :-)

Until next time...

New Semester Same Professors

Hola amigos!

Its a beautiful day out. I am in my drafting class wishing I was out in the sun and wind. I know it has been a while since my last post and please forgive me for not checking in. I will try and keep you all posted on how everything is going. First off school had started off a bit slow, kind of like last semester, a lot of confusion on
the instructors part. A week into the new semester and we had a five day weekend, and people still trying to add into classes. For an example in my drafting class their are more than fifty students, the norm is about twenty-five or thirty. The instructor is really cool he stresses that we should take our time on our drawings so they look neat. compared to my other classes this one is my relaxation class. I just put on my Spanish guitar music and draw.

My trigonometry teacher is a hoot! he leaves a lot of decisions as to when quizzes and home work should be turned in up to the students. A few of the people in my trigonometry class find his antics annoying and unprofessional, but then again they aren't passing the class. And for the record I think he is a good teacher. He just has an unorthodox way of presenting the material.

Well amigos it is time to finish my drawings. Enjoy the beautiful day!

Trees

I came across some of the most inspiring pictures of forests this morning that went perfectly with one of my favorite Enya songs In the Memory of Trees (see music clip below).

I thought they were really beautiful and wanted to share:

These pictures also go really well with this lovely poem...

I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast

A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair

Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain

Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree

Enjoy!

Words to Live by...Fenelon

I sympathize with you in all your heartaches. But I know you understand that we must carry the cross with Christ during this fleeting life. Soon time will give way to eternity and our suffering will be over. Soon God will wipe away our tears with His own hand, and pain and sighing will forever flee away, and we shall reign with Christ. But while this fleeting moment of trial with Christ is permitted us , let us not lose sight of the glory quietly and humbly. It is self which is always exaggerating our troubles and making us think that they are bigger than they are. But pay no attention to the complaints of self. A cross carried in simplicity, without the interference of self adding to the weight of it, is not really so bad. If we suffer for Jesus because we love Him, we are not only happy in spite of the cross, but because of it. For love rejoices at the privilege of suffering for the Well-beloved, and the cross which forms us into His image is a comforting bond of love.
